I Took This Road
Writings and other musings from Steve Lawrence
I like to read. Everything. It’s both a passion and a compulsion. From an early age, authors such as Heinlein, Ellison, Sturgeon and Bradbury fed a burning curiosity that brought me to Hemingway, Dickens, Steinbeck, Orwell and so many more. Oh yes, Poetry was included in that mix. Poe, Frost, Keats, Blake, Cummings, Browning, Kipling to name just a few.
I started writing poetry in my teens and have continued as I have aged. At some point I realized that I was really writing for myself. Poetry is a unique way to impart maximum information, thoughts, feelings and emotions using a minimum of words. When an artist releases a new song, they do so for much the same reasons. As an observation, I find it much easier to memorize the words to a song than to a poem. There is magic in music.
All of us have traveled down our own paths through the days of our lives. This is the road I took and I hope you enjoy reading about my journey. There is magic in all of our lives!
